Fruit-forward cannabis strains have dominated the market in the current cannabis climate, often at the expense of other flavors. However, at Breakwater, our cultivators are passionate about exploring this plant’s limitless diversity, relentlessly seeking out flavors of times past that speak to the complex history of cannabis. For this reason, Sour Super Skunk is a meaningful selection for us, preserving and expressing its own unique chapter in that history.

If there is one thing East Coast cannabis has been recognized for, it’s the gas profiles and Sour varieties. Sour Super Skunk, from Top Dawg Seeds, evokes memories of 1990s NYC and the age of Sour and Skunk. We carefully combed through nearly a thousand seeds with a Sour lineage before finally landing on this stalwart classic. Nose-hair-tingling, eye-burning, mouth-watering, sulphury sour and skunk aromas are in full effect with this phenotype. These aromas bring us back to a time when cannabis was still outlawed and heavily stigmatized. As such, quality Sour and Skunk varietals have been hard to track down. Critical genetic preservation has made it possible to rediscover plants that some have sworn were lost forever. We thank JJ of Top Dawg for this valuable contribution.

We have selected phenotype #55 from our test plants of Ghost Train Haze #1. Bred by Rare Dankness out of Colorado, GTH is founded upon the base of the Original Ghost OG crossed with Nevil’s Wreck.

The result is a cultivar with strong growth, large flowers, and sugary trichomes ripe for separation (hint hint). The aromatic influence of Ghost OG plays well with the unmistakable hazy fragrance, adding a slight citrus and mild pine. Expect an increase in energy and extreme focus. However, the somewhat common jitteriness associated with haze varieties is all but lost on this pheno, with the Ghost OG influence squashing it out.

From the extremely private breeder Capulator, we bring you a MAC experience unique to Breakwater. These rare seeds were mostly given to contemporaries, but CAP raffled off a few packs, and we happened to win one. Out of 15 seeds, we found a single keeper during our pheno hunt. MAC, or “Miracle Alien Cookies”, is most known for its abundance of trichomes, giving its buds a powdered sugar-coating appearance that glistens under light. It has a range of smells and flavors like citrus and sweet pine, with an earthy quality as well. MAC is sure to give its user a happy, uplifting experience and is a fantastic consumption choice for any time of day. So is the case with Wave Runners from Crystal Rose Seed Co. and Soul Rebel Selections. These two stellar collectives got together to create another exceptional strain in Wave Runners. This extremely limited release came together as Crystal Rose was generous enough to share some of the pollen from his standout male, OGKBTriple, with Soul Rebel (a.k.a. Microbe Alchemist). Soul Rebel pollinated his Papaya Melonz female to create Wave Runners–a one-off breeding project that is all the more covetable because it will never be created again.

Interestingly, our phenotype of Wave Runners grows similarly to another Crystal Rose Seed Co. favorite, Pie Eyed. With substantial height and abundant, well-spaced branches, it is a treat to cultivate and care for. The flower boasts a delightful olfactory profile, suffusing the air with a fuel-forward, peach ring candy smell. The aroma of the hash rosin offers its own unique complexity–melons and papayas merge with the kerosene-soaked peaches–adding another standout profile to the Breakwater selection. While it has predominantly daytime effects, heavy consumption can undeniably lead to a more sedative and eye-drooping effect.

While the kush female in this cross, Deadhead OG, contributes a long-lasting body high and an abbreviated flowering time, this phenotype is dominated by its male parent, Tom Hill Haze. Originally sourced from Sam the Skunkman’s stock by Tom Hill himself, the legendary Tom Hill Haze strain has established itself as a mainstay among cannabis breeders and gardeners since the 1990’s. A well-respected grower and breeder in the NorCal region who has been working with the cannabis plant for decades, Tom Hill specializes in the preservation of pure lines and offers seeds and hybrids of heritage cannabis varieties.  

Our phenotype of Deadhead OG x Tom Hill Haze is a towering plant with a tremendous growth rate. She can double the size of other plants in the same amount of vegetative time. Buds stack and form significant colas, requiring considerable support. Complex smells of haze are ever-present, maybe best described as an herbaceous ammonia. The herbs and tea leaves meld with a slight lemony citrus and eventually give way to a hardwood floor cleaner aroma of bleach. As to be expected, an uptick in energy and increased mood are commonly felt when consuming this variety. The Deadhead OG x Tom Hill Haze is sure to excite those nostalgic senses of prior decades’ Haze invasion.

Crystal Rose Seed Co. is a family affair out of Maine started by the DoSiDos-loving “Dosi Drew'' and his partner Amanda. Focused on breeding cultivars with high resin content and unique terpene profiles, Crystal Rose has made a name for itself in Maine and beyond.

After sparking a friendship with fellow Maine transplant and grower MegaRaw Melts, the two decided to embark on a breeding collaboration. Crystal Rose is fortunate enough to be the only breeder to this day given the opportunity to use Mega’s fabled Pie Dough female. They pollinated Pie Dough with their own powerhouse male, OGKB/TK. Bud structure in the offspring is dense, with plants tending to have a cookie/chem-type structure. The resin is extremely greasy and almost wet. Aromas and flavors range from sweet dough and gas to cherry pie and hash.

Our phenotype (as is often the case with other Pie Eyed phenos) has a balanced mix of effects, giving the user vivid cerebral clarity as well as an overall sense of relaxation. The user can expect an initial feeling of alertness and sociability, followed by a calm that soothes the stresses of a long day. Some may notice more sedative effects with a release of pressure behind the eyes and a heavying of the eyelids."
